We have a special comic for you today‚ the first of a series of “Ask A Character!” comics where The Dreamer cast answers your questions! [Read below the cut.]
This week I asked Twitter and Facebook for suggestions, and Chelsea Sasson asked the winning question! (I hope you’re happy, Chelsea… I think you made Alan cry.) Chelsea, you win an official “I Heart Nathan Hale” tee shirt!
So why silly comics today?
Right before Mike and I left for our trip to the UK, my publisher, IDW, contacted me about being the artist on a new mini-series. The SyFy channel is adapting one of IDW’s series, Wynonna Earp, into a TV show. Wynonna Earp was created by my friend and mentor, Beau Smith.
U.S. Marshal Wynonna Earp is the gunslinging great-grandaughter of Wyatt Earp, and it’s her job to bring justice to the supernatural world.
Beau and I have wanted to work together since we first met years ago. I was just an eager, semi-obnoxious, know-it-all art student who had spent more time watching The Lord of the Rings than actually drawing comics. For some reason, that didn’t turn him off, and we’ve been friends ever since.
So when IDW asked me draw the series—and even delayed the release date so the deadlines wouldn’t interfere with my trip to London—I couldn’t say no.
Over the last month I have tried to do The Dreamer, Wynonna Earp, and a story I’m finishing for Colonial Comics Volume 2, but I’ve been sending Julie Dreamer pages to color on the day of the update. It was barely sustainable… I was afraid she would quit… but I was still trying to make it work. UNTIL…
Mike went to California to finally find us a place to live… and he did!
I just can’t do it all on top of a cross-country move. I hate that when life gets overwhelming, it is The Dreamer that I have to cut back on, but it’s the only project I have control over.
What does this mean?
I don’t want to put The Dreamer on hold again.
So I thought it would be fun to introduce “Ask A Character!” comics on Wednesdays, and keep updating as usual on Fridays until we’re settled in California. I’m expecting Dreamer to be back to normal by Christmas.
Ask A Character! comics on Wednesdays.
Regular Countdown to Culper webcomic updates on Fridays.
(And Short Story updates via Patreon on Mondays.)
Read the first Ask A Character! comic below the cut… And leave your own question in the comments, or on Facebook or Twitter. The author of the winning question will receive an “I Heart Nathan Hale” tee shirt and have their question answered next week!
*If you are leaving your question via a comment on the blog, be sure to use a valid email address so that I can contact you if you win.
*I only have select sizes of “I Heart Nathan Hale” teeshirts, so winners will have to chose from what I have in stock.
