Alan is not off to a great start with his future in-laws. At least Hercules offered him a drink.
According to Frederick, Washington has been withdrawing most of his troops from Manhattan. So far, they’ve kept the British at bay.
General Green, stationed at Fort Washington, believed that it was important to keep possession of the fort in order to maintain a presence on Manhattan.
Washington’s gut told him that it was impossible to hold Fort Washington if the Americans held no other ground on Manhattan, but ultimately he put his faith in his commander on the field: nearly 3,000 troops were left at Fort Washington.
